Mosley asks whether people think he could beat Juan Manuel Marquez

By Chris Williams: The 39-year-old faded Shane Mosley sees himself as the better option for Manny Pacquiao compared to the 37-year-old WBA/WBO lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez. Even though Mosley hasn’t held a title for years, he still sees himself as a better fighter than Marquez and feels he would beat him if they were to fight. It’s hard to really buy any of this given how ragged Mosley has looked in his last two fights against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Sergio Mora.

In both fights, Mosley looked tired early on, lacked power after the 2nd round, and was sloppy. Personally, I would favor Marquez to not only beat Mosley but to easily beat him. Mosley might have his way for two rounds, but after the 2nd round, Mosley would be in big trouble and would take a beating from Marquez. I don’t agree that Mosley is the better fight for Pacquiao. I think he’s better in terms of being an easier option for Pacquiao so he doesn’t wind up getting beaten up like he was in his two fights with Marquez.

In an article at the dailynews.com, Mosley says “I would just ask them one question. If me and Juan Manuel Marquez fought, who do they think would win? That is the question I have.” Sorry, Mosley, but you would lose to Marquez. I have a feeling you would also lose to Michael Katsidis as well.

It’s disappointing that Pacquiao is facing an old shot fighter like Mosley instead of Marquez or a more relevant fighter. Taking on Mosley is the equivalent of dragging Oscar De La Hoya out of retirement and putting him in the ring. It’s not even sporting.
