Khan to face McCloskey in April

By Allen Hmiel: World Boxing Association (WBA) light welterweight champion Amir Khan (24-1, 17 KO’s) after barely surviving a battering from the above average Marcos Maidana in December, is now planning to be fighting in England for a while. Why? I can tell you why. Khan has severe boxing flaws that have been exposed ever since Prescott stretched the weak Khan out stone cold in their fight, embarrassing the highly thought of Amir and planting the seeds of doubt in the minds of astute boxing minds.

Now since Maidana brought out and laid open the flawed Khan weaknesses again, in front of the boxing public. the Khan management team of Freddie Roach and Golden Boy Promotions thought it best to return Khan to England. Where he can fight on British soil against hand picked easier opponents for a while to try and gain some self esteem and put a little glitter and hope on a fast fading Khan career.

The Khan team played and teased with a possible easy bout against the weak-hitting Lamont Peterson but now they seem to have put their cards on the table with a possible bout against the weak hitting EBU light welterweight champion Paul McCloskey, another tailored made soft Khan opponent. The smoke and mirror self saving career move to England will enable the crystal chinned Amir to fight weaker fighters along the lines of a Matt Hatton, a Junior Witter and possibly a match against the rehabbed and rusty semi retired much battered overrated long forgotten over exposed Ricky Hatton! All these fights will help to delay and put off the inevitable conclusion of a once promising boxing career. Even Fred Roach realizes that he has a suspect fighter with no defense and a glass jaw that when matched against a true warrior would not be able to put up much of a battle. One cannot even begin to contemplate a Manny Pacquiao fight when the outcome of a Lamont Peterson fight would be in obvious doubt.

Can shrewd management and weak opponents last forever for Khan? No, eventually the WBA will require Khan to fight a legitimate real contender to defend the title belt he has currently borrowed and will have to return, once faced with a credible and legitimate boxer. But in the mean time, watch carefully how Khan will be matched with these light hitting soft punchers like a Peterson and McCloskey and a Junior Witter and possibly Matthew Hatton. The Amir Khan Career Saving Protection Plan cannot last forever and it is only a matter of time until this whole charade will end and the Khan career comes to a screeching halt. England is not that big a place where you can hide forever.
