Kell Brook says he has “the style” to beat Pacquiao

By Michael Lieberman: Unbeaten number #1 ranked WBO welterweight contender Kell Brook (23-0, 16 KO’s) believes he has talent to beat WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao, according to the latest boing news.

Brook, 24, who is breathing down Pacquiao’s neck in the #1 position, has wiped out his previous 23 opponents, easily beating them with his combination of speed and power.

Brook is one of those clever types of boxers that have typically given Pacquiao tons of problems. That in itself may make it difficult for Brook to get a fight with the Filipino, as he’s typically matched against fighters that either stand in one place or come straight at him looking to slug. Brook isn’t one of those types of fighter, although he’s quite good at slugging when he wants to.

In an article at the independent.co.uK, Brook said “Everyone knows what a great fighter Pacquiao is. He’s a machine. But he’s been beaten before and he can be beaten again, and I’ve got the style to do it.”

It’s going to be of interest whether Pacquiao defends his WBO title against Brook at some point or vacates it. Brook isn’t well known enough for Pacquiao to choose to fight him unless it’s forced upon him.

However, it’s very likely that Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum will have Pacquiao vacate his WBO title when the time comes where he might get in the situation where he’s forced to fight Brook. Pacquiao is on a different track at this point in his career and pretty much on shutdown mode, just taking money fights against guys that Arum picks, but not necessarily the absolute best fighters in the divisions that Pacquiao is fighting them.

Brook will be fighting in April against a still to be determined opponent. He needs to start facing better opposition because he needs recognizable opposition on his resume so that he can start getting noticed worldwide and not just in the UK.
