Instead of Berto battling it out with Mosley on twitter, why doesn’t he fight someone good for a change?

By Chris Williams: Unbeaten WBC welterweight champion Andre Berto (27-0, 21 kO’s) has been battling it out with 39-year-old Shane Mosley recently on twitter in some of the most juvenile posts I’ve seen. I don’t see the point in it all. Berto had his chance to fight Mosley but then backed out of the fight. Berto still hasn’t fought anyone really much of a threat to him during his time as the World Boxing Council welterweight champion.

I’d much prefer Berto be concentrating more on trying to find a live body to fight next instead of battling it out with a fighter like Mosley, who is clearly on his last leg and about to take a major beating by Manny Pacquiao on May 7th. Obviously, Berto is hoping to get a shot against Mosley afterwards, and that’s too late to be fighting Mosley as far as I’m concerned.

The time to fight him was before Mosley got beaten up by Floyd Mayweather Jr last year. And with Mosley looking poor in a 12 round draw with Sergio Mora in September last year, and with the beating he’s about to take, what’s the point in Berto facing him? Berto is rumored to be looking to fight 36-year-old Randall Bailey next. I don’t like that fight, because that’s not the big named opponent that Berto needs at this point.

Berto has already plenty of fights against guys that are the equivalent of Bailey while combing the ranks of the light welterweight division to find opponents. It’s time Berto step it up a level and fight quality guys from his own division. If HBO is going to continue to show Berto’s fights to the U.S public, at least he could do is fight some quality fighters that boxing fans want to see him against. Mosley, coming off of a beating by Pacquiao, isn’t what I consider a quality opponent. It wouldn’t be seen as fair at that point for Berto to fight Mosley. The guy needs to find someone more youthful and relevant, such as Mike Jones or even Selcuk Aydin. At least those guys would have a puncher’s chance of beating Berto and aren’t 100 years-old.
