Image: Rafael in favor of Khan fighting Prescott againBy Scott Gilfoid: ESPN writer Dan Rafael is strongly in favor of WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan facing his former conqueror Breidis Prescott in a long awaited rematch next year in Khan’s next fight in April instead of Lamont Peterson. Khan’s fans are totally against him fighting Prescott and want him to stay a million miles away from the hard punching knockout artist. Now why would that be? Are Khan’s fans trying to save him from being knocked out again?

Here’s what Rafael had to say on the matter in his recent ESPN chat session:

“It’s not pointless. The fans there [British fans] would want to see it and it would generate money. And we can say what we think will happen but we need to see it. When you get knocked out that badly [Khan was knocked out in the 1st round by Prescott], a rematch is important to set the record straight. There is no reason the fight should not happen next considering Khan is fighting in England in a fight that is admittedly a sort of stay busy fight. Nothing wrong with that, especially coming off such a rough one with [Marcos] Maidana.”

I absolutely agree with Rafael. Khan should fight Prescott next and finally prove that he’s the better fighter after all this time. Khan’s fans don’t want him to fight Prescott for some reason, and prefer that he take on a light puncher that won’t his chin like Lamont Peterson. I smell fear. It looks like Khan’s fans are worried that he’ll get knocked out and then they won’t have him to salivate over.

They need to understand that Khan is going to get knocked out again sooner or later anyway, so he might as well face Prescott and have done with once and for all. The good thing about this fight is once Prescott knocks Khan out again, he can go back to fighting domestic level opposition in England and his loyal British fans will be able to see all of his fights once again.
