Image: Prediction: Glen Johnson will beat Froch to get to the Super Six finals against WardBy Scott Gilfoid: WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KO’s) is riding high right now based on his 12 round decision win over Arthur Abraham (31-2, 25 KO’s) last weekend in their Super Six tournament fight at the Hartwall Arena, in Helsinki, Finland. While Froch did what he had to do against a fighter that looked reluctant the moment he started walking up to the ring, I don’t see Froch as being any different than the fighter that got badly schooled by Andre Dirrell last year in October. Sure, Froch did well against Abraham, but this is the same Abraham that had just been totally dominated by Dirrell in March and how had lost his cool and hammered Dirrell after he slipped on the canvas.

I hate to say this but I see Froch going back to looking just as bad as he was in the Dirrell fight when he takes on Glen Johnson next year in the semifinals of the Super Six tournament. Froch seems to be under the impression that he’s going to win this fight and then meet up with the talented WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward in the finals of the tournament. Look at this comment from Froch: “You have to give Johnson credit for the way he came down a weight and retired Allan Green. But I will do a job on him.”

I don’t think so. Johnson won’t come into the fight looking beaten the way that Abraham did when they fight, and he’ll at least be willing to throw punches. Abraham looked lost and tentative. He wasn’t attacking the way that he should have been had he been on his game mentally. He fought like a defeated fighter already and of course he cot beaten fighting like that.

I see Froch as having a false sense of accomplishment from the Abraham win and he’s now thinking he has the talent to get to the finals against Ward. I don’t see that happening. Johnson’s work rate, experience and power is going to be far too much for Froch and I see Froch not only losing this fight, but getting stopped in the process. He’ll be thinking he’s got another short guy he can beat up at a distance and he’s going to be in for a rude awaking when Johnson walks through Froch’s weak jabs and starts raining shots on him on the inside. Johnson has a great inside game; Froch doesn’t. This is going to be a slaughter and I can’t wait to be ringside to see this one.
