Malignaggi, 30, hasn’t fought since being stopped in the 11th round by WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan on May 15th of this year. Malignaggi looked horrible in that fight and it was thought that he would retire rather than stick around and serve as a trial horse for the top light welterweights to look good against.

However, Malignaggi has signed with Golden Boy Promotions and it’s thought that Malignaggi will eventually be used as a future opponent for their rising star Saul Alvarez to have a fighter with a name for him to put small amount of substance to his resume while at the same time give him some experience against a crafty runner.

Malignaggi doesn’t have the power to go out and just destroy the little known Lozada on Saturday, so he’s going to have to try and out-box him. Judging by the high percentage of knockouts on his record, Lozada appears to have some power. Malignaggi will have to be careful, because he’s taken a lot of punishment in his losses to Ricky Hatton and Khan in the past two years.

Lozada might be able to pull off a huge upset if he can come firing power shots against the light hitting Malignaggi. There’s no secret in how to beat Paulie. You just keep firing power shots until the referee stops it.
