Haye and Booth, conning the fight fans?

Image: Haye and Booth, conning the fight fans?By Norman Marshall: I get the distinct impression that WBA heavyweight champion David Haye and his trainer/manager Adam Booth are conning fight fans. The Klitschkos are obviously willing to fight. Booth and Haye say they want the fight, with either brother.

The possible truth is that Haye and Booth are just using the Klitschkos name as a crutch for Haye’s credibility. As fight fans we pay our pay per view fees. Part of you likes to feel that you are following the fighter on his journey. My fear is that with Haye, we are looking at the destination. We are looking at a fighter and his manager filling their boots, picking off heavyweight misfits.

The great problem, and the pair of them know this, is that a defeat by Wladimir immediately pulls the emergency brakes on the David Haye gravy train.

We got a clear insight into David’s mentality in the Audley Harrison early season panto with an ultra cautious Haye prior to the frantic end. It created the impression of a man who didn’t 100% believe in himself. Almost like school boys at an arranged fight. By fight time they are both wishing they were somewhere else and are desperate to get it over with at the first opportunity.

Here we saw Haye’s tactics against a bigger man. Sit back and wait. The problem with either Klitschko is that whilst David waits he will be on the end of a damaging and potent jab. Any attempt at forward progress will be met with straight right hands or effective smothering. Vitali stood up to Lennox Lewis. I think Hayes punches won’t have much of an effect on him. That leaves David in deep water, minus his arm bands! Yes we know Wladimir is vulnerable, but so is Haye.

David Haye insists he will retire this coming October. This leaves 10 months for 2 super fights? It does not appear that there is enough time to fit both brothers in. Unfortunately Booth and Haye have no intention of fitting in either brother.

I believethey are intent on taking the most cash for the least amount of risk. Fair enough, you may say. I say we are being short changed and fleeced at the same time by a pair taking from the fans and not giving enough back. Haye will retire at the end of the year, with his saddle bags full. He will then blame the Klitschko brothers for the fights never taking place.
