Great Britain vs. The World: Preview (Part 1) Khan, Chisora

By Shaun Campbell: Firstly, before the preview of a great night of boxing on December 11th I would like to start by wondering why yet again I have been forced to read more bias drivel by certain authors on this site who will remain nameless. As always, with my articles I will try and offer a fair analysis of up coming fights. The subjectivity of other articles makes them almost unreadable at times, and therefore ruining this site I once used to respect.

December 11th sees a brilliant night of boxing from around the world involving a massive eight title fights (hence the promotion ‘GR8 Britain vs. The World). Each and every one of these fighters is worthy of topping any bill, but officially it’s Amir Khan who gets the honour. He meets hard hitting Marco Maidana in the 3rd defence of his WBA world light-welterweight title. Obviously this is Khans biggest threat to date. And as always, there is the added risk of what happens when someone lands a shot on Khan’s chin. Unfortunately for the young champion, it’s a worry that he will probably have to deal with his whole career, but that doesn’t mean he can not be a brilliant world champion. Like Wladimir Klitschko, Khan knows he is vulnerable in that area, however unlike Klitschko though, Khan still generates excitement. I see this fight being a tough test for both men, who have both been knocked down on numerous occasions. Speed, foot movement, and defence are the advantages for Khan. Maidana has the power, relentlessness and heart. However I see Khan’s class being a little bit too much for the tough Argentine, and a late stoppage for Khan would be my prediction. Having that that Maidana is a warrior who will not stop going, so if he can drag Khan into a tough close range fight, then he has every chance of becoming the new champion and upsetting the odds like he so famously did against Victor Ortiz.

Prediction – Amir Khan wins by a late TKO.

Next is the intriguing heavyweight title fight involving the IBF, IBO, WBO and Ring champion Wladimir Klitschko and current British and Commonwealth champion Derek ‘Del Boy’ Chisora. After only 14 fights, Chisora must have been as shocked as the rest of us to learn that he had a massive opportunity to fight the top man in the world. Everyone was hoping Klitschko would be fighting a British heavyweight, but were surprised to hear that is was Chisora. So the mega fight with Haye will have to wait. However will Klitchko get a chance? The undefeated challenger, should he win, has the chance to throw a spanner in the works and potentially ruin any plans of a unification bout between Haye and Wladimir. People are saying Chisora, who stands at 6ft tall, is too small to beat Klitschko. But they seem to be forgetting about Lamon Brewster who wasn’t much taller. Sam Peter gave Klitschko all sorts of problems in their first fight. Derek is quick and if he can get in close to Wladimir, then he can pull off the unthinkable because he has real power. However unfortunately I don’t see him getting pass that impressive jab of Klitschko, and even if he does get inside, Klitschko will attempt to tie Chisora up and make it an ugly fight. I see the champion retaining his title.

Prediction – Wladimir Klitschko wins by TKO mid rounds.
