Oscar De La Hoya, of Golden Boy Promotions, says a fight between his fighter Khan and Prescott is a possibility for Khan’s next fight in 2011 in the UK.

Khan, 24, needs a recognizable opponent and Prescott, who destroyed Khan in one vicious round in Manchester, England in September 2008, is a fighter that British boxing fans are very familiar with.

Prescott not only fought in the UK for the Khan bout, but also came back to fight lightweight Kevin Mitchell in December 2009, losing a 12 round decision in that bout. Mitchell, however, didn’t even try to trade with Prescott. Instead, Mitchell opted to run and jab all night long to win a dull decision.

Speaking to the dailystar.co.uk, De La Hoya said “I think Prescott is definitely do-able. It would be about revenge and there’s nothing sweeter than revenge. It would have no complications regarding his career in the U.S. I think it’s great that he’s [Khan] thinking about his fans in England. After fighting over here [in Las Vegas, Nevada], it would give those fans of his a great fight against a tough character. It just shows you the kind of fighter Amir is. Afterwards, he can come back and continue his progression of becoming a superstar in American.”

Prescott may be the best opponent for Khan if he’s focused on fighting next in the UK. Khan could face someone like top light welterweight contender Victor Ortiz, but that fight would be less interesting because of how bad Ortiz looked this past weekend in his 12 round draw with Lamont Peterson. Ortiz looked very timid in the fight and appeared to be confused.

Khan needs a slugger that won’t take a backwards step like Prescott, and he needs to avenge his earlier defeat to him. What better time than now after Khan recently defeated Maidana this past weekend? If Khan can beat Prescott and Maidana in back to back fights, he will have gone a long ways towards dispelling the notion that he has fragile chin.
