Image: The underdog that won, Margarito?By Gerardo Granados: Not only in movies such things can happened, in real life this had happened more than once; boxing history has proven that if a trained fighter steps in to a ring he has a chance to win. Some times the champion gets over confident, distracted or simply gets tired of the diary boxing training routine, other times the underdog connects that clean hard shot that finish it all. In this case, Congressman Manny Pacquiao might have different interest in his mind other than boxing; after all he has accomplished boxing records that will be hard to match. On the other hand the underdog Antonio Margarito is so hungry for glory that cant be more focused on his only goal, to become the champion.

James Buster Douglas vs. Iron Mike Tyson, back in 1990 the betting odds were radically uneven giving Tyson a 42-1; even Buster won with the help of the controversial long count of Referee Meiran, but he finally knocked out Tyson in 10 rounds. While Buster who was not considered as a serious contender, was not only focussed but inspired trained to win the undisputed heavyweight title, the champion on the other hand was over confident and did not prepare himself the way he should have.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Oscar De la Hoya. The Golden boy must have believed he would have an easy fight against such smaller opponent, but it turned out an embarrassing night for Oscar that he will never forget.

Tommy Hearns vs. Pipino Cuevas, Cuevas had twelve title defenses and for his next defense he give a chance to a young prospect who beat him by KO 2 and turned out to become a boxing hall of famer.

Roberto Duran vs. Sugar Ray Leonard (Montreal), the welterweight Champion received 9 mill and his opponent former lightweight Champion recieved only 1.5 mill for their bout, Leonard was an Olympic gold medalist and Duran was a tremendous fighter, but Sugar Ray had height, reach advantage, and he was supposed to be more skilled than Duran; at the end Manos de Piedra won a UD 15 and the respect of the boxing world.

Frankie Randall vs. Julio Cesar Chavez, the surgeon gave Chavez his firs knock down of his career and also his first loss via SD 12.

Sergio Martinez vs. Kelly Pavlik, what a surprise this was to all except to Sergio who won by UD 12; this was not supposed to happened but did happened.

The underdog is driven by a superior desire to prove the world wrong. No one believes he can win and all the odds are against him, so he prepares to war physically and mentally, he is totally focused and nothing cant derail his track; besides he does not gets so distracted as the champion who is not left alone by media and fans. The challenger who is considered the underdog wont feel the presure to win be cause he is the supposed lamb to be sacrificed.

Margarito will be fighting for more than just the WBO Welterweight title, he will be fighting to reestablish himself as an elite fighter, to clean his name and reputation, its his last chance to become a champion and to be remembered like that and not for the illegal plaster wraps suspension.

As Congressman Pacquiao said, he is now more interested in politics and this could be an issue that might turn thing around at night fight. Soon we will find out if Margarito is able to write his name next to the other underdogs that shocked the boxing world.
