There has been rumors circulating around about Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker speaking to Hatton about a fight with De La Hoya. That news bit has since proved to be false. Hatton hasn’t fought since being stopped last year in the 2nd round by Manny Pacquiao in May, and that loss seems to have taken the desire out of Hatton to continue his once thriving boxing career.

Hatton had this to say in an article at the Morningstaronline.co.uk: “I can say it is absolute rubbish [his fight with De La Hoya]. Nothing was ever said to me and right now my main concern is the show we are staging next week. As far as a comeback goes, I am still of the opinion I had 18 months ago. I have no ambition to come back. Even if I did, at this moment in time I am banned by the British Boxing Board of Control, so I am unable to make a decision whether I wanted to fight or not. Although I feel the board was correct in punishing me, hopefully in time they will offer my license back and I will be free to make a decision on my future. The Board have banned me, but after all I have done in boxing, I have the fight to retire Ricky Hatton and nobody else.”

Hatton would likely get his boxing license back if he did any amount of pushing for it. Hatton was the #1 star in boxing in the UK at the time of his loss to Pacquiao, and it’s likely that he could have his boxing license back within a short time if he approached the board and campaigned to get it back.
