Image: Pacquiao on 60 Minutes = Boring as heckBy Dave Lahr: I just finished watching Manny Pacquiao on 60 Minutes and what a boring show it was. I can’t believe how dead the thing was. I was expecting some interesting interviews or maybe some tidbits on Pacquiao’s next fight with Antonio Margarito, but all it contained was Bob Simon talking about how great Pacquiao as a fighter and how he got blown off for an interview and had to wait an entire day to meet with him. They showed some meaningless footage of Pacquiao hitting the mitts from Freddie Roach, and then Simon talked about how Pacquiao’s servants do everything for him.

Simon talked about how Pacquiao gives his money away and other such stuff that it common knowledge already. They showed Pacquiao playing the guitar, stuffing his face, and all these members of his entourage hanging around. It was totally boring. I can’t believe Simon wasted his time on this stuff. I would have done it a lot differently. I got the general impression from the show that Pacquiao was like royalty in the Philippines, and who cares? I wanted to see something interesting. Simon should have taken some footage of Pacquiao’s fights with Erik Morales from the first fight and then his fights against Marquez, and then had that going in the background while he talked about Pacquiao’s catch-weight fights. That would have been enlightening I think.

Simon said “He’s [Pacquiao] the best boxer in the world. Everything one thinks so.” Well, I don’t think so. I think Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez would have something to say about that.
