Image: Khan-Maidana: Look for Marcos to send Amir back to England in a million piecesBy William Mackay: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) is making his first real test since being knocked out in one round by Breidis Prescott two years ago when Khan takes on Marcos Maidana (29-1, 27 KO’s) on December 11th, in Las Vegas, Nevada. This is Khan’s moment of truth.

He’s supposed to be showing that he deserves all the hype that’s been made about him by his loyal British fans and by his trainer Freddie Roach. On December 11th, Khan’s training wheel’s come off when he’s finally put in with an opponent that’s a threat to him.

Khan has been handled with kid gloves since being knocked out because they wanted to keep him from getting knocked out again. Now, with the treat of being stripped if he didn’t finally defend his title against Maidana, Khan has no other choice but to fight him or else lose his title and lose his ability to fight on HBO.

This is going to be Khan’s moment of truth. If he loses, which I think he will, he’ll be sent packing back to the UK where he comes from in defeat. I see Khan’s glass jaw getting knocked to a million pieces when Maidana traps him against the ropes and knocks Khan clean out.

The good news is that we’ll have a champion that’s prove. Maidana already has partially proven himself with wins over Victor Cayo and Victor Ortiz. A win over Khan will be another piece in the giant puzzle for Maidana. The bad news is that Khan, a fighter that was thought to be future of boxing, will be badly exposed again like so many other pretenders in the past.
