This isn’t really big news, because Froch has been talking about retiring from boxing for awhile about this fight, but he’s still talking about it. You’d think that after his loss to Mikkel Kessler in his last fight, Froch would have realized that there’s a good chance that he’ll lose this fight as well and he’d hold off on the retirement talk. But he seems to be putting a lot of weight on this fight as the sign that he either has what it takes to compete with the best or he doesn’t.

I think Froch is missing the boat. If he loses this fight, which I think he will, it will probably be because of his bad habit of fighting with his hands down instead of holding them up to protect his head. Froch has adopted the fighting style used by American fighters with blazing hand speed like Roy Jones Jr. and Floyd Mayweather Jr. The problem is Froch doesn’t have the hand speed and the quick reaction time that those two fighters possess. As such, Froch has been getting royally clobbered as he’s stepped up the level of his competition by participating in the Super Six tourney. If he was smart, he would adapt, evolve and learn his style of fighting needs some adjustments.

However, Froch has been slow in learning and has stuck with the same hands down fighting style he’s used while coming up the ranks against domestic level opposition. That shows you that Froch hasn’t adapted. When you don’t adapt and change, you get bypassed, which is what I see happening with Froch. He needs an American trainer that teach him how to fight, but most of all he needs to be willing to change.

This is what Froch had to say about retiring in an interview at Sky Sports News: “If I lose, I’ll have to think about stopping. I want to to compete for big fights, not just box at regional level. Tis fight is all or nothing for me.” So, in other words, Froch will quit if he loses.
