Froch-Abraham: Can Carl box well enough to stay upright?

Image: Froch-Abraham: Can Carl box well enough to stay upright?By Scott Gilfoid: Former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) has always been a slugger and has never known to do much changing in his style of fighting. If there was ever a time where Froch really needed to make some changes, it’s now with him facing knockout artist Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) on November 27th at the Hartwall Arena, in Helsinki, Finland.

Froch doesn’t have the power to go toe-to-toe with Abraham, and probably doesn’t have the chin either. I fully expect Froch to go out there and forget all about boxing and just stand straight up, chin jutting out in front of him, and try to throw leather with Abraham for as long as it lasts. It likely won’t last long for Froch, unfortunately.

Picture a person driving their car at 100 mph and driving straight into a bridge abutment. Now that’s about as smart as Froch trying to stand and trade with Abraham. But Froch is like one of those people that can’t change no matter what. Basically, he is what he is. I guess it’s probably too late in this point in Froch’s career for him to get wise and try to protect his chin by boxing a little against Abraham.

I don’t see it happening, not with Froch. He’s going to try and ram his chin right through Abraham’s gloves. It’s going to be like the captain of the Titanic trying to ram an iceberg and keep going. It’s just not going to work. Abraham is going to wreck Froch’s world and send him to dream land courtesy of one of his big right hands.

Froch can save himself from this terrible fate if he would just try and box and protect his big lantern jaw, but I don’t think Froch will. He’s the type that fights angry and gets royally clobbered because of it.
