By Chris Williams: Many Pacquiao’s Trainer Freddie Roach says he thinks Antonio Margarito is having problems taking weight off for Saturday’s fight at the Cowboy Stadium. Well, there it is. The old catch-weight handicap is doing a job on Margarito, if what Roach says is true. If this fight were held at 154, Margarito would have no problem making the weight, but they wanted it at 150 in another catch-weight fight for Pacquiao.

They’re fighting for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title, yet it’s going to be held at a catch-weight. In other words, Pacquiao is going to have a handicap for weight. It certainly won’t help Margarito to have to boil an additional four pounds.

In noting that Margarito didn’t work out as long as Pacquiao in his session at the Gaylord Hotel Gym, Roach had this to say according to Philboxing.com: “He cut short his session because he was afraid he himself could expose his liability. I think he’s still overweight, so he would rather spend more timed shading weight than show his wares in preview? I think he was trying to make the weight for Friday’s weigh-in.”

Well, if Margarito is having problems making the 150 pound catch-weight that Pacquiao and his team insisted on, he only has one person to thank for that. If the fight were to take place at the normal weight for the junior middleweight division at 154, perhaps Margarito wouldn’t have any problems.

I just love how they pick a fighter and then make him boil down with one of their god awful catch-weights, and then when he comes in drained, Pacquiao is able to beat up what’s left of the fighter. Why doesn’t Roach have Pacquiao fight Margarito at the full weight for the junior middleweight division?

Roach has been saying that size doesn’t matter. Well, if it doesn’t matter, he should make Pacquiao fight Margarito at the full weight so he doesn’t have to talk about how Margarito is having problems making weight.
