Will Sprott be Haye’s next opponent after Harrison?

By William Mackay: After winning last Saturday night’s Prizefighter tournament Britain’s Michael Sprott (35-15, 17 KO’s) said he’d like to fight WBA heavyweight champion David Haye or the Klitschko brothers for the world title. IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko is already looking to fight Derek Chisora in December from the UK.

And Haye is taking on former 2000 Olympic Gold Medalist for Britain Audley Harrison next in November. Harrison did exact what Sprott did in winning the Prizefighter tourney. The win for Harrison had paid off well for Harrison, as he’s now in a big money fight with Haye on November 13th, at the M.E.N Arena, in Manchester, England.

Will Haye opt to take on the 35-year-old Sprott after the Harrison fight rather than stepping it up and taking on one of the Klitschkos? Sprott is much more vulnerable than the Klitschkos, and recently was knocked out by Harrison in the 12th round.

It’s a fight that you would never think would happen because Haye often talks about wanting to fight only the best in the heavyweight division. Sprott, with his 15 losses on his ring record, clearly isn’t one of the best heavyweights in the ring.

However, Sprott is one of the best heavyweights in the UK, and he does have the win in the Prizefighter tournament now to make himself more appealing to Haye. This isn’t, of course, a fight that the rest of the world would give two figs about but it is one that would do well in the UK.

Since Haye appears to be taking his time about wanting to fight the Klitschko brothers, he may decide that a fight against Sprott might be too tempting to resist and could end up taking this fight for yet another payday before he finally takes on the Klitschko brothers.
