Image: Margarito can really help his career if he destroys PacquiaoBy Chris Williams: Antonio Margarito can really help himself in a big way if he takes Manny Pacquiao apart and stops him on November 13th at the Cowboys stadium, in Arlington, Texas. Margarito’s reputation has suffered greatly because of the hand wrap issue and his loss to Shane Mosley. Right now, it’s probably the major reason why he even got the fight with Pacquiao, because if he was still fighting at the top of his game like he was in 2008, he would probably be deemed too big for Pacquiao to fight.

That’s what they say about Paul Williams anytime you ask why doesn’t Pacquiao fight him. Manny’s fans always say he’s too big and then start making references to Pacquiao fighting heavyweight Wladimir Klitschko. However, Margarito can really surprise them if he is able to look anything like he used to look two years ago when he dismantled Miguel Cotto in 11 rounds.

If that Margarito is able to be resurrected, then I think Pacquiao is going to get his backside whipped in royal fashion. I not only think Margarito would beat him, I think he would tear Pacquiao apart in the process of stopping him. The win would be so huge for Margarito, because it would validate his career, it would give him a lot of fame and respect, and it guarantee him a huge money payday in a rematch with Pacquiao in the near future. Margarito is getting decent money for his fight with Pacquiao next month, but nothing like the kind of money that he could make if he whips Pacquiao and takes him out. Margarito would then make millions in a rematch with Pacquiao.

And if Margarito were to somehow win that fight as well, he would be so rich it wouldn’t be funny. His career resurgence would be like a dream come true. This would be the kind of comeback that you make into a movie. I don’t see Pacquiao fighting Margarito for a third time if Manny loses both of the first two fights. Margarito would then be considered too big for Pacquiao, a step too far for Manny to take. Pacquiao would then have to settle for fighting Miguel Cotto in a needless rematch, and then deciding whether he wants to hang up his gloves with two losses out of his last three fights. I think that would be hard for Pacquiao to take and I could see him hanging around long enough to build up a series of wins so that he could get out with a little dignity.
