Haye says he’s going to knock Harrison out in the 2nd or 3rd round

By William Mackay: The way WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (24-1, 22 KO’s) sees his November 27th fight against Audley Harrison (27-4, 20 KO’s), this fight is a huge mismatch. Haye doesn’t expect to have any problems whatsoever against the 38-year-old Harrison and is predicting an early knockout win.

Speaking to the Dailyexpress.co.uk, Haye says “Harrison is training hard for this fight, but I would expect that as it is his shot at the title. But I am going to knock him out in the second or third round even if I am at my worst. Harrison at his best can’t beat me at my worst, simple as that. It can’t be done.”

At his worst, Haye was stopped by 40-year-old Carl Thompson six years ago in 2004. Harrison appears to hit harder than Thompson did, and he’s a lot bigger than Thompson as well. We can’t know how Haye will do in that fight, because he’s been selectively matched since he moved up to the heavyweight division in 2008.

Haye has fought Monte Barett, Nilolay Valuev and John Ruiz. All of these fighters are in their upper 30s and that really takes away from the wins for Haye. Instead of fighting old guys, Haye needed to take on some younger fighters and prove that he belong with good heavyweights. We won’t know how good Haye is until he takes on Harrison and beats him. This is fight that could prove how limited Haye is as a heavyweight.

Haye also had this to say about his career after boxing: “I have a year left and then I want to go into the movies. Working in movies is something I have always wanted to do. I am looking forward to another part of my life.”

What a pity. Haye may end up really regretting it if he retires while still on the top his game. I can’t see him as a movie actor. He seems too self-conscious and too wooden to be anything more than just another bad ham actor. I think would be better off sticking it out in boxing for the next five of six years. If he still wants to be an actor after that point, so be it. There’s too many bad actors and he would likely be just another one of the many bad ones.
