Image: Haye plans on going into acting after his boxing career ends next yearBy Scott Gilfoid: WBA heavyweight champion David Haye will be going into show business next year after he ends his boxing career at age 31. In an article at the Guardian.co.uk, Haye says “I’ve had [acting] offers.” I suppose Haye is talking about acting offers from the UK, because I couldn’t see him acting in the United States. His British accent might make it difficult for him to find jobs over here unless the part was for a Brit. He’s got a commoner accent. It kind of reminds me of Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. I think Haye is wasting his time trying to be an actor. He’ll make much more money as a fighter, and the chances are high he’ll get only a couple of bit parts and once his popularity as an ex-fighter starts to wane, he’ll likely get zero calls.

I don’t see Haye as actor. He’s kind of stiff, seems nervous and hyper sensitive and he has an annoying habit of making his eyes get real big when he’s talking. There’s so much about him that would have to change for him to be an actor. I personally wouldn’t hire Haye if he were auditing for me because he seems to lack the charisma needed to be a good actor. Someone I think who be a good actor is Audley Harrison. He seems more natural with a camera on him, is likable and has a gift for a gab. I think Harrison has much more charisma than Haye. There’s no comparison, really.

Haye says “My whole life I’ve been doing it. I love this side of boxing, as much as the actual fight. To step away from that and not put on these performances, whether in the ring or in front of a camera, I definitely feel there would be something missing from my life. That’s why acting is for me. I want to be other there performing. I’m a showman, but I’m very cool under pressure.” I think Haye is going to be in for a big disappointment. To be an actor, you have to be more than someone that makes silly boats or predicts a dire future for his opponents. You have to be a chameleon. I just see Haye as a pretty simple person and not someone that would interesting to watch compared to someone that actually had some acting talent. Haye won’t be the first athlete that cut his career shorting thinking he would make it big as an actor.
