Anthony Dirrell vs. Daryl Salmon this Friday

By Scott Gilfoid: Undefeated Anthony Dirrell (19-0, 16 KO’s), the talented brother of super middleweight contender and former Super Six tournament participant Andre Dirrell, will be fighting this Friday night against Daryl Salmon (16-5, 4 Ko’s9 in an eight round bout at the Buffalo Run Casino, in Miami, Oklahoma. With Andre on the shelf temporarily due to some neurological problems he’s suffering from getting fouled in his last fight against Arthur Abraham, Anthony Dirrell will start in where Andre left off.

Anthony is just as fast of hand and feet as Andre, and just as talented. If anything, Anthony Dirrell is an even bigger puncher because he sits down on his shots a lot more than Andre. In his last fight, Anthony blew out Jimmy Campbell with body shots in a 1st round blowout on August 17th. Anthony battled non-Hodgkin lymphoma from 2007 to 2008. He’s now over it and ready to take the super middleweight division by force. At 6’2 1/2″, Anthony has even better size than Andre and with his big power and blazing fast hands, I can see Anthony accomplishing everything that Andre would have had he not been temporarily injured.

The Dirrell-Salmon fight will be on the undercard of the Antonio Tarver vs. Nagy Aguilera heavyweight bout. Unfortunately, the Dirrell fight won’t likely be televised. The fight between Shawn Porter vs. Hector Munoz will likely be shown instead. Porter is well known because he was Manny Pacquiao’s sparring partner for his fight with Miguel Cotto. I don’t see Porter as someone with nearly the upside as Anthony Dirrell. Showtime needs to show the Dirrell fight instead, because I see him winning a title someday and I can’t say the same thing for Porter.
