Abraham vs. Froch: Will Carl be able to take Arthur’s best shots without getting decapitated?

By Scott Gilfoid: I really don’t like former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s chances against the monstrous punching Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) in their stage 3 Super Six bout on November 27th in Helsinki, Finland. Abraham has fought twice thus far and in both cases he’s sent his opponents – Jermain Taylor and Andre Dirrell – to the hospital after landing crushing right hands.

In the case of the blistering fast Dirrell, Abraham was unable to lay a glove on the talented American until he slipped on the wet canvas and was hit while in the sitting position. Think of it like golfing. Dirrell’s head was on the tee and Abraham clubbed and knocked Dirrell out.

Dirrell had to pull out of the Super Six tournament recently due to headaches and dizziness he’s still suffering from the shot to head. Abraham is one of those fighters that don’t seem to know his own strength. When he hits people, bad things happen to them.

I don’t remember Abraham being such a big puncher earlier in his career, but it could be that he’s gotten stronger as he’s matured and become more stationary. He’s sitting down more on his punches than he used and not running around the ring or fighting off the ropes all the time like he sometimes did.

Froch is one of those fighters that believe he’s going to take you out with every punch. He loads up on everything he throws, and because of his lack of hand speed, he often misses badly. Instead of loading up on his shots, Froch should be taking some power of his punches and just focusing on trying to connect with speed.

I think he’d be much better off that way, because at least he could land an occasional decent shot instead of missing so often. Froch is going to go after Abraham and try to mix it up. Froch says he’s going to follow Dirrell’s blue print in how to beat Abraham. I don’t think so. Froch won’t be content with jabbing and moving like Dirrell did.

Froch may jab some, but his main strategy will be to try and punch with Abraham. This is going to leave Froch right where Abraham wants him, because he won’t have to chase him down like he was unable to do with the blistering fast Dirrell. Froch will there in front of him, and will make it so easy for Abraham to knock him cold in dramatic fashion.
