Pacquiao taken to hospital for foot pain

By Eric Thomas: On Friday, WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao was taken to a local hospital after complaining of foot pain while working out at the Florde Gym, according to news from Abs-cbn news. Pacquiao had an MRI done along with blood tests to try and figure out what the problem is. The results were inconclusive. The doctor couldn’t find anything wrong with Pacquiao other than some swelling.

It could be that the way that Pacquiao has a habit of jumping around when fighting might have caused a lot of stress on feet. At 31, Pacquiao is beginning to show signs of aging. It isn’t helped that he’s spending a lot of his free time running around in his political job.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach had this to say about it: “It’s not an injury we’ve never had before. We’ll try to get it out of the way as soon as possible. We know how to deal with it. It’s just a little pull probably. But he moved pretty well today. He beat the sh** out of me. He [Pacquiao] got me winded.”

Despite Roach’s optimism about this not being a problem for Pacquiao, it’s an area of concern because the training camp has just begun for his November 13th fight against Antonio Margarito. If this injury re-occurs during the fight with Margarito, Pacquiao could be the equivalent of bird without wings. If he can’t jump around from side to side to change angles, Pacquiao could be a sitting duck for Margarito.

A stationary Pacquiao likely has little chance against a big puncher like Margarito. Roach could be whistling past the graveyard about this problem. It would be wiser to have it watched closely, because Margarito has a lot of power and throws a lot of punches in his fights. This isn’t Joshua Clottey, who just stood there and covered up for 12 rounds. And it’s not Miguel Cotto, who ran for 12 rounds. Pacquiao actually might get hit in this fight and if he gets hit enough, he could get beaten up and stopped. If his wheels aren’t working for him due to an injury of some kind, he’ll be much more vulnerable.
