Image: Khan says after Maidana, he wants the Bradley-Alexander winnerBy Dan Ambrose: WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) says he’ll be the unified light welterweight champion by the end of 2011. In Khan’s twitter, he says “After [Marcos] Maidana, I want the winner of [Timothy] Bradley vs. [Devon] Alexander. I promise by the end of next year I will be unified champ.” That’s pretty interesting given that we’re not even clear yet whether Khan will be fighting Maidana next. He’s supposed to be fighting Maidana on December 11th, but there’s been complaints from Khan’s manager that Maidana is asking for too much money for the fight because he wants $1 million for the fight.

This is something that has gotten in the way of Khan fighting other fighters in the past. If it happens again, it would be very convenient for Khan because Maidana is a dangerous compared to some of Khan’s recent opposition.

Maidana may not have looked great in his last fight against DeMarcus Corley last week, but Maidana looked to be slightly out of shape in that fight and not as sharp as he was in his previous three fights against Victor Cayo, William Gonzalez and Victor Ortiz.

Khan was knocked out in the 1st round by Breidis Prescott in the 1st round in 2008. Prescott has been hoping for a rematch with Khan ever since. However, he’s had no luck in landing a rematch. Khan had this to say about Prescott “For those haters, Prescott is long gone. He won’t fight me. I’m past that level. But what a great learning curve defeat was, The defeat came from god to show me I was slacking. It makes me think no wonder it finished so quick and I was not hurt only my pride was hurt. Look at me know.”

I think Prescott would fight Khan if he was given the opportunity, but it doesn’t look like he’s going to get that chance. It’s interesting to see how Khan is wording his twitter to suggest that Prescott doesn’t want the fight. Are you kidding? Prescott would obviously love to fight Khan again and get an excellent payday and another chance to knock Khan out again. It’s strange that Khan never tried to avenge that defeat. I think Prescott would knock Khan out again because he really seemed to have Khan’s number in that fight. No matter what Khan did in that fight, Prescott was on top of it. He had Khan staggered by a jab.
