Image: Cordoba vs. Rigondeaux on Pacquiao-Margarito undercard on November 13thBy Jim Dower: Former 2000 and 2004 Olympic Gold Medalist for Cuba Guillermo Rigondeaux (6-0, 5 KO’s) will be fighting former World Boxing Association super bantamweight interim champion Ricardo Cordoba (37-2-2 23 KO’s) on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Antonio Margarito clash on November 13th, at the Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas, according to the latest boxing news.

Although some people might think this is too big of a jump up for Rigondeaux, who up until now has been facing C level fighters, he appears to be ready to make that jump. At 29, and soon to be turning 30 later on this month on September 30th, Rigondeaux needs to make this move because he’s not getting any younger.

Besides that, he’s had plenty of experience at the amateur levels and has looked too superior to the mediocre opposition that’s been fed to him since turning pro in 2009. Cordoba, 25, has wins over quality fighters like Celestino Caballero, Luis Alberto Perez, and Eddy Julio. Where Cordoba has had problems is when he was matched against Poosawat Kratingdaenggym and Bernard Dunne.

Cordoba lost both of those fights, and was stopped by Dunne in the 11th round last year. Cordoba can punch really well and has a difficult southpaw style. However, Rigondeaux, a classic counter puncher, is also a southpaw and makes his opponents pay for every punch they throw. He likes to go to the body a lot for his counter shots and he’s been stopping his opponents with body shots recently.

This fight could make a star out of either of these two fighters. This is Cordoba and Rigondeaux’s big chance, as there’s likely going to be as many as 70,000 fans at the Cowboy stadium on November 13th, and there could be as many as 1 million fans purchasing the fight on pay per view in the United States. And that’s not counting all the other fans from other countries that will be watching the card.
