Will Froch blow a gasket and start fouling if he falls behind in the Abraham fight?

Image: Will Froch blow a gasket and start fouling if he falls behind in the Abraham fight?By Scott Gilfoid: I’m really not sure what to expect from the October 2nd bout between former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch and Arthur Abraham in their stage 3 Super Six fight in Monaco. This fight matches two power punchers coming off of losses and in need of a win. Froch technically has one win and one loss in the Super Six tournament, but you really can’t say that Froch’s win over Andre Dirrell was an impressive one in his first fight of the Super Six tourney. If Froch is cool with it, then that’s good. Who knows? Maybe Froch thinks he won it by a landslide decision, since he’s one of the few people that believe he should have won his last fight against Mikkel Kessler last April. Froch lost that fight by a 12 round unanimous decision, but Froch still thinks he won the fight for some reason.

Anyway, Froch has got his hands full in his next fight against Abraham and I’m wondering what Froch will do if he falls way behind in the fight and finds himself getting battered by Abraham without stop. I’m hoping Froch is able to regroup in between rounds with the help of his trainer in formulating a good counter measure to get back in the fight. But I don’t have a lot of faith in that happening. What I’m hoping is that Froch doesn’t have a meltdown mentally and start fouling Abraham for all he’s worth.

If Abraham gets pissed off as well, we could have the fight quickly reduced to a barnyard brawl where anything goes. I’ve seen a few of Abraham’s fights, enough to know that Abraham can throw a mean elbow at times and is pretty lethal in the last 20 seconds of every round. You sometimes don’t know what you’re going to get hit with. If Froch starts throwing Abraham to the canvas out of frustration and teeing off on textbook version rabbit punches, Abraham might lose it as well and open up with some of his jaw-breaking elbows and who knows what would happen then. Can you imagine if the referee gets hit with one of the stray rabbit shots or elbows? We may need a stretcher.

And if the referee just blindly lets Froch and Abraham tear each other apart for 12 rounds, there may not be enough left of the winner to do anything in the next fight in the Super Six tourney. I’m really hoping these two fighters can keep it clean this time. Abraham was getting dominated in his last fight against the talented Andre Dirrell when he suddenly threw his best Sunday puncher after Dirrell had slipped on the canvas. The shot hit a defenseless Dirrell almost tore his head off. It was totally unfair and it could have really hurt Dirrell. As it was, he was knocked cold and still didn’t know what happened after he woke up. Abraham, needless to say, was immediately disqualified for the flagrant foul. But it showed how lethal Abraham can be at times. And Froch body slammed Dirrell in their fight last year and roughed him up without stop from the 5th round until Dirrel, tired of being bullied, staggered Froch twice in the 10th.

You could be on your guard at all times when you fight the guy or else. Froch is going to be deep, deep trouble with his habit of fighting with his hands down by his waist. He’s going to get blasted to pieces by Abraham unless Froch covers up. I just want this to be a clean fight, but I see it turning into an MMA nightmare before long. They should just make a small ring, so they can have at it and get it over with quicker.
