Image: Froch wants to fight Abraham in Ireland, Showtime to decide in next few daysBy Scott Gilfoid: If former WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) gets his way his next fight against Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) will be taking place in Dublin, Ireland rather than Monaco or some other venue on September 18th or October 2nd. However, Showtime will be deciding where the fight will ultimately take place in the next few days, which is good news for boxing fans tired of all this nonsense about venues.

In an article at Newsoftheworld, Froch, 33, says “I prefer the contest to be held in Ireland because it will be a lot easier and affordable to my fans than Monte Carlo…Many couldn’t get to [Mikkel] Kessler fight because of the volcanic ash crisis, the date being changed and Herning being in rural Denmark. I want the Abraham fight to be within their reach and budget.”

However, Abraham has his own thoughts about where the fight should take place, and prefers it take place in Monaco. Showtime will now have to decide whether to appease Froch or Abraham. It be better to decide on a location completely apart from those two, just in case one of the fighters doesn’t complain about it nonstop afterwards or threaten to pull out of the tourney.

Froch is partial to Ireland because he fought their in 2001 as an amateur in a tournament. But the location is very close to England, so you can see how Froch would much prefer to fight in Ireland rather than say Austria or a country neighboring Germany, where Abraham now lives.

Froch is coming off 12 round decision loss to Kessler last April in Denmark. Froch, for some reason, thinks he should have won the fight despite the fact that few fans agree with him. Froch still thinks he would have won the fight had it taken place in Nottingham, England, where Froch lives.

Froch already won a controversial decision in the Super Six tournament against Andre Dirrell in Nottingham. Strangely enough, Froch doesn’t want Abraham in Germany because he doesn’t think he can win a decision. Whatever the case, it’ll be good that Showtime makes a decision about the location for the Froch-Abraham fight in the next few days because this thing could drag on forever with Froch or Abraham not happy with the location of the fight and shooting down each others ideas for a suitable venue for the Super Six stage 3 fight.

Abraham was disqualified in his last fight in the Super Six tourney, losing by a 11th round disqualification to Dirrell in March after tagging Dirrell when he slipped on the canvas.
