By William Mackay: Former World Boxing Council (WBC) super middleweight champion Carl Froch (26-1, 20 KO’s) plans on staying at the Hellaby Hall Hotel in Rotherham in the UK for 10 weeks while he trains for his October 2nd fight against Arthur Abraham (31-1, 25 KO’s) at the Chapiteau de Fontvielle, Princepaute de Monaco, in Monaco. Froch, 33, will be moving out of his home in Nottingham, England, to stay in the hotel, which isn’t going to be cheap for Froch. The cost per night to stay at the Hellaby Hall is $72, and if Froch ends up staying for 10 weeks, he’ll be dishing out over $5000.

Froch doesn’t want to have to deal with distractions at home, and needs to make sure that his training is perfect for this fight. In Froch’s last bout in the Super Six tourney, he was beaten by Mikkel Kessler by a 12 round decision on April 24th. That loss was a big one for Froch, because now he’s in the position where if he loses again, he’ll be effectively eliminated from the Super Six tournament.

In an article at the Dailystar.co.uk, Froch says “I just need to concentrate on this fight and have to get away from all distractions. It will be hard leaving my family, but this is such a big fight that my preparations must be spot-on this time.” Froch is lucky to not have two losses in the Super Six tournament, as he barely squeaked by his first opponent in the tourney Andre Dirrell, beating him by a controversial 12 round split decision in Nottingham last October.

Froch has struggled in his last three fights now is extremely fortunate that he didn’t lose all three fights. He clearly needs to buckle down and try to get in the best possible shape that he can for his next fight against Abraham. However, this fight may ultimately come down to brute strength rather than how well conditioned that Froch is or isn’t.

Abraham punches incredibly hard, and has hurt both of his Super Six tournament opponents. Froch, if he wants to win, has to work on his defense and try to keep from getting hit so often. With the kind of power that Abraham has in both fists, it won’t take him a lot of punches to get Froch out of there. Froch was hurt by Jermain Taylor, Dirrell and most recently by Kessler. Abraham punches harder than those fighters and loads up with everything he throws.

Froch may end up on the canvas early in this fight and his conditioning may not even be a factor. For Froch, this is it. If he loses this fight to Abraham, then he’s out of the tournament and will have to figure out what he wants to do with his career.

Froch was hoping the Abraham fight would take place in Nottingham, England. Froch has been worried about losing another decision ever since his loss to Kessler. However, his fight against Abraham will have three American judges, so Froch won’t have to worry about losing a controversial decision.
