By Sam Gregory: In the opening bout of ESPN2 Friday Night Fights from the Buffalo Run Casino in Miami, Ok. undefeated Don George 20-0-1 with 17 KO’s takes on Francisco Sierra 21-3 WITH 20 KO’s for the vacant WBO and NABO super middleweight titles in a scheduled 10 round bout in the super middleweight division.
In the first round Sierra lands a big solid right hand that staggers George
In round 2 Sierra goes to the body working on the inside; Sierra backs up George landing big uppercuts; George is trying to hang on but just makes it through the round; in the last 30 seconds George gets knocked around the ring holding on to the ropes. Big left hook is the best punch for Sierra
Round 3 is more of the same; all Sierra’s punches are big solid power punches
Round 4 Sierra lands a big 4 punch combination; George is a game fighter, he returns punches but doesn’t land anything of significance
Round 5 George is fighting an uphill battle trying to defend his unbeaten streak; George’s face is starting to swell up; Sierra is chasing George around the ring, blood is streaming down the face of George
Round 6 Sierra is landing punches at will; George goes down but it’s not ruled a knockdown; Sierra turns southpaw, blood is streaming down the face of George, Sierra lands a big 3 punch combination
Round 7 George is just covering up trying to avoid punches; George’s white trunks appear to be pink because they are covered with his blood. George is knocked down from a big right hand from Sierra; George collapses after the bell at the end of the round; the punch landed right at the bell. George is given 5 minutes to recover but he is really beat bad. They deduct 2 points for the punch being thrown after the bell. The fight goes to the judge’s scorecards after 7 rounds. It’s decided that the punch wasn’t thrown with intent after the bell so no disqualification but after the 2 point deduction it goes to the scorecards
