Husanov wins majority decision in 10

By Sam Gregory: In the main event on the June 18th edition of ESPN2 Friday Night Fight’s from the Northern Quest Casino, Spokane, Washington undefeated Russian Sherzod Husanov 14-0-1 with 7 KO’s defends his unbeaten record against Colombian Jhon Berrio 15-6 with 11 KO’s in a scheduled 10 round bout in the junior middleweight division.

In round 1 Husanov got off with his jab first; Berrio countered and landed a combination. Husanov came back with a combination to the head and body backing Berrio against the ropes. Both men landed solid shots in the first round; Husanov appeared to have the better round landing several big right hands.

In the second round Husanov had Berrio backed against the ropes throwing combinations to the head and body. Mid way through the round both men were in the center of the ring trading punches; it was long before Husanov had Berrio backed against the ropes again where he landed a solid combination keeping control of the round until the closing bell.

In round 3 both men traded shots in the center of the ring. Early on Husanov seemed to have slowed his output of punches but soon picked up the pace landing a big combination backing Berrio across the ring; Husanov clearly controlled the offensive flow of the fight.

In round 4 Berrio got off first but Husanov countered off Berrio’s punches and quickly took control again. H was able to cut off the ring not giving Berrio room to put his punches together. Berrio wasn’t using his jab but instead throwing looping roundhouse punches that scored well for him giving him his best round of the fight so far.

In round 5 Berrio came out the aggressor throwing combinations landing with his big looping shots; Husanov counters and lands a big combination. Berrio lands with his jab and throws a combination; Husanov counters and lands several big shots to close out the round.

Round 6 both men traded punches from the center of the ring; Berrio threw a looping overhand right; Husanov clinched, both men punched out; Berrio began coming forward and scoring big pushing Husanov across the ring; Berrio had another big round

In round 7 Berrio got off with his jab first; Berrio had Husanov backed against the ropes and landed a solid combination; Husanov countered landing a couple big shots; Berrio clinched, Husanov punched out and both men traded punches until the closing bell.

Round 8 both men traded jabs in the center of the ring; Husanov took control of the exchange having the more accurate cleaner punches. Berrio pushes Husanov back against the ropes; Husanov landed a big right hand that knocked Berrio off balance; Berrio came close to hitting the canvas but managed to stay on his feet to the end of the round

Round 9 both men traded jabs, Berrio landed a big right hand, Husanov clinched and the ref separated them. Berrio continued to throw looping punches; Husanov countered landing several solid shots; Husanov landed a solid right to Berrio’s head to close out the round

In round 10 Berrio came out aggressively throwing his jab; Husanov countered with combinations pushing Berrio against the ropes, Berrio landed a big right hand; Husanov came off the ropes throwing solid combinations; Berrio’s legs were wobbly; both men traded big shots until the closing bell.

After the tenth and final round the fight went to the judge’s scorecards: 95-95, 98-92 and 96-94 for the winner by majority decision Sherzod Husanov
