Why is Katsidis being considered for Khan when Amir thinks he’s a “washed up fighter”?

Image: Why is Katsidis being considered for Khan when Amir thinks he’s a “washed up fighter”?By William Mackay: I was somewhat surprised to learn that Golden Boy Promotions are considering matching WBA light welterweight champion Amir Khan (23-1, 17 KO’s) up with Michael Katsidis. The reason why is because Khan only last week had this to say about Katsidis: “Katsidis is finished, washed up fighter.” Why would Khan be interested in fighting Katsidis if he thought that he was washed up? That seems kind of unusual, but then again it would be the first time that Khan fought someone who he didn’t think was very good. He fought Andriy Koteknik after saying he didn’t think he was very good.

Why is Katsidis being considered as an opponent for Khan with Amir thinking he’s washed up? We already saw Khan fight 36-year-old Marco Antonio Barrera and recently beat Paulie Malignaggi. Isn’t it time for Khan to start fighting the top light welterweights that he’s been talking about. Sorry, I don’t consider Malignaggi to be one of the very top light welterweights. I think the ranking system was off in putting him at number #3 in the WBA. The light welterweight division has a handful of talented fighters – Timothy Bradley, Marcos Maidana, Devon Alexander, Victor Ortiz – and those are the ones that Khan needs to be going after, not a fighter that he thinks is a washed up fighter.

Khan needs to be fighting Maidana first and if he’s still standing at the end of that fight, then go after Bradley and Alexander. It would be nice if those two fighters would weed each other out beforehand, but I’m not holding my breath on that happening. But if they don’t fight, Khan should go after one at a time and then move up in weight to welterweight. Khan could then go after Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao – his two dream fights – and make huge money and become a huge success story.
