Neither Nottingham, England nor Berlin, Germany is currently being considered for the fight. Froch, 32, has repeatedly said that he doesn’t want the fight to take place in Germany, where he feels that he wouldn’t have a good chance of winning a decision. Froch and his promoter Mick Hennessey said that there was a verbal agreement from the Super Six organizers for Froch to fight Abraham in Nottingham.

However, Abraham’s promotional company Sauerland, says there was neither a verbal or written agreement about the Froch-Abraham fight taking place specifically in England. All that it stated was that the bout should take place in Europe. To make both fighters happy, a neutral venue is being looked at. The venue that is being considered now is Zurich, Switzerland. It’s a location that would still likely benefit Abraham more, since Switzerland is directly below Germany and easier for Abraham’s fans to get to compared to Froch’s British fans. However, Froch is likely more concerned with being able to get a fair shake with the judging if his fight with Abraham goes to decision.

Both Froch and Abraham are coming off disappointing losses and can’t afford to lose again if they want to make it to the semi finals of the Super Six tournament. Froch was beaten by Mikkel Kessler by a 12 round decision on April 24th, in a fight that took place in Kessler’s country of Denmark. Previous to this fight, Froch had no problems fighting in another opponents’ home country. Froch’s perceptions about that appear to have changed dramatically, as he believes that he should have been given the nod by the judges in the Kessler fight.

Froch thinks that he would have beaten Kessler had the fight taken place in Nottingham, England. After seeing Froch’s questionable victory over Andre Dirrell last October in Nottingham, I would have to agree with Froch about that. I think Froch would have been given the decision over Kessler had the fight taken place in Nottingham.

Abraham was beaten by Dirrell in March after Abraham was disqualified in the 11th round after hitting Dirrell after the American fighter had slipped on the canvas. The fight was pretty much one-sided up until the 10th round. Had the fight gone to completion, there’s little question that Dirrell would have beaten Abraham by decision. As it is, Abraham lost the fight due to the disqualification for hitting Dirrell when he was down. After the fight, Abraham said that he thought Dirrell was a good actor and that he thought he was faking it. It didn’t matter, though, because Abraham still blew it by hitting Dirrell while he was down on the canvas.

It’s hard to imagine that the Froch-Abraham fight will go to decision, so all this fuss over the venue of the fight could be meaningless by the time fight actually takes place. Abraham has huge power and does well against fighters like Froch that stand in front of him all night long. Froch, unless he changes his bad habit of keeping his hands down by his waist, will be in great danger against the hard hitting Abraham.
