DeGale doesn’t think Haye will beat the Klitschko brothers

Image: DeGale doesn’t think Haye will beat the Klitschko brothersBy Scott Gilfoid: 2008 Olympic middleweight Gold Medalist for Britain James DeGale says he doesn’t believe that World Boxing Association heavyweight champion David Haye (23-1, 21 KO’s) will be able to beat either of the Klitschko brothers. In an article at the Sun, DeGale, 24, said “I can’t see him [Haye] beating the Klitschkos. They’ll give him trouble and it will come down to his punch resistance.” Thanks for the bit of brilliance, DeGale. Now tell me something I don’t know. The Klitschko brothers beating Haye kind of goes without saying, really.

Haye hasn’t fought anyone at heavyweight aside from a couple of 2nd tier fighters Tomasz Bonin and Monte Barrett, and old paper champion, the slow moving 36-year-old Nikolay Valuev, who Haye looked horrible against in his last fight in November. Haye barely beat Valuev by a 12 round majority decision by running from him all night long averaging a pitiful 12 punches thrown per round. It was perhaps the worst heavyweight fight I’ve seen in my entire life. I’ve seen some awful fights before, by Haye’s fight against Valuev really takes the cake.

And I don’t blame Valuev one bit for the terrible fight. He at least was trying to initiate the action and make the fight by coming after Haye. However, Haye ran like a virgin on prom night, looking terrified of the weak punching Valuev. What made it even worse was that Haye had talked a lot before the fight about how he was going to knock out Valuev.

“Haye can definitely beat Ruiz. He’s one of the best heavyweights in the world at the minute, along with the Klitschkos.” Is DeGale talking about Ruiz or Haye? I’m assuming he’s speaking about Ruiz. Yes, I agree somewhat that Ruiz is one of the top 10 heavyweights, but I don’t agree with DeGale about Haye beating Ruiz. I think Ruiz is going to get to Haye’s weak chin and connect with something hard enough to put Haye down for the count.

It probably won’t take a real big shot for Ruiz to put Haye down, because Haye’s chin has already been shown to be weak. The only thing that Ruiz has to worry about is catching up to Haye, because I see Haye running from him like he did against Valuev. I think Ruiz should have no problems catching up to Haye and finding his chin and putting him down for the count.

DeGale says “Technically and skills-wise, [Audley] Harrison’s probably the best heavyweight we’ve got.”
