Miguel Cotto vs. Manny Pacquiao: What bigger man?

By Saad Farooqi: Like always, I do not intend nor will I take anything from Manny Pacquiao. He’s singlehandedly led boxing into the next level with excitement and character like only once-in-a-generation superstars can do. While Pretty Boy Floyd merely emulates the arrogant, loud-mouthed banter that Ali practically invented, Pacman brings a humble, straight-forward and hard working character to the sport. His win over Miguel Cotto was nothing short of spectacular.

That said, let me say this as clearly as I can: Miguel Cotto is not bigger than Pacquiao. From the tale of the tape, Miguel’s hieght is 5″7 while Manny is 5″61/2 and the fight was at a catch weight of 145 pounds.

Still not convinced?

Then how about them having Manny have the same bicep size as Cotto (13″), Manny’s forearms being 1/2″ larger, the same reach of 67″, Manny’s normal chest being 38″ while Cotto’s is 39″ the same expanded chest size but his expanded chest size being the same as Cotto’s (notice how this shows the stamina difference between the two), the same neck size (16″) and larger calf size with Manny’s being 15″ while Cotto’s are just 12″.

The only thing Cotto has bigger than Manny is fist size which is 11″ compared to Manny’s 10″, a larger waistline (32″ as opposed to Manny’s waist being 28″) and larger thighs, with Cotto’s being 221/2 and Manny’s being 20″.

As said before, I don’t intend to take any thing from Manny. It simply proves that most “boxing experts” simply did not realize that the much talked about, so-called size advantage that Cotto apparently had never existed in the first place.

This does not take anything away from Manny’s win. Manny fought one of the best fighters the world had to offer and won in all departments that night. The last man who beat Cotto needed brick gloves to do it. All we need now is for Manny Pacqiuao to challenge Floyd Mayweather Jr. and take his rightful place as the Pound For Pound King of boxing.
