pac43432By Manuel Perez: Well, it looks like Manny Pacquiao plans on playing the Floyd Mayweather Jr. game against Miguel Cotto on November 14th when they meet at the MGM Grand, in Las Vegas. Nevada. I was hoping that it would be an interesting fight where Pacquiao would at least try to engage, but it probably won’t happen.

Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, had this to say to the Sports. Inquirer: “Cotto loves long exchanges, and we have to move out to the sides quickly. We’ll [Pacquiao] leave Cotto swinging at air.”

It sounds like Roach is going to turn Pacquiao into a little Pac runner for the November 14th bout, as if I didn’t know.

Watch his fights against Juan Manuel Marquez, David Diaz, Erik Morales, Marco Antonio Barrera, Oscar De La Hoya and Ricky Hatton. Pacquiao’s whole thing is to come in fast like a little annoying mosquito, throw two or three punches and then flee like a thief into the night.

I hope Cotto has been following Roach’s latest news sound bites because he might have to chase Pacquiao all night long rather than have him standing in front of him trying to make a fight of it.

There are reports that Pacquiao supposedly worked over his sparring partners Shawn Porter and Urbano Antillon the other day. I don’t know whether to believe this stuff or not, because I haven’t seen the sparring sessions. But if Pacquiao did get the better of Porter, then more power to him. What do you expect is supposed to happen? Of course Pacquiao is going to be able to beat up his sparring partners. That’s what they’re there for – to be beaten up. Porter isn’t there to destroy Pacquiao.

He’s there to be worked over by Pacquiao. That’s how it goes. I’d be worried if Porter was beating Pacquiao up 24/7, because it would probably be the end of Porter as a sparring partner. If this was an actual fight without head gear, it might be a different story. I’ve seen Porter fight a couple of times. He looks good, but really short for a light middleweight. He’s only had 10 fights.

Do you think Roach and Pacquiao could have found a fighter with a little more experience than that to spar with? Antillon hasn’t had that many fights either. Why is it the young, vulnerable ones that Pacquiao is sparring with? They need to find him a veteran that as some fights under his belt. Bring in Alfredo Angulo and we’ll see Pacquiao get some good sparring.
