harrison8211By Liam Santiago: Tonight Audley Harrison (23-4, 17 KO’s) will make another attempt to get his career back on track, after an embarrassing start tonight against 6’7″ Scott Belshaw (10-2, 7 KO’s) at the ExCel Arena, Dockland, London. The former olympic gold medallist will star in the prize fighter tournament. Also involved is his bitter rival, Danny Williams. This is the last chance for Audley. If he wants to go places he has to win this tournament.

Harrison’s career started well. He blasted away some hot unbeaten prospects such as Mark Krence (11-0-0 at the time) and Tomasz Bonin (26-0-0 at the time). But things took a drastic turn for the worse when Audley was beaten on points by Danny Williams. In his comeback fight against Dominick Guinn, he again lost on points. Three fights later, Michael Sprott knocked him out in three rounds and in his last fight Martin Rogan beat him on points.

Audley just does not seem to have the confidence in his fitness to dominate of twelve rounds, or even ten. However, tonight will be different. All bouts are three rounder’s and that is where Audley is best. I think he will win this tournament because he has to. If he does not win tonight, it is the end for Harrison. He has claimed, recently, that he still believes he can become world champion and he has recently called out David Haye. Personally, i can not see Audley mixing it with the Klitchsko’s just yet, but, he has got the talent.

One thing I always disagree with Audley’s critics is that he is over rated. He has got the talent. All he lacks in the confidence in himself and the heart to win. I think now that it has hit him that this is his very last chance, we might see a different Audley. If he goes on to win tonight, it won’t mean he is destined for a world title, because these are only three round fights. But, it will be a great start to a comeback for big Aud.
