By Eric Thomas: American boxing fans will get the pleasure of being able to watch the November 7th heavyweight title fight between World Boxing Association heavyweight champion Nikolay Valuev and British challenger David Haye on Pay-Per-View.

The bout, which will take place in Nuremberg, Germany, is going to be distributed to the American audiences by Integrated Sports. The cost to view the bout will be $25.95, an especially good price given the tendency for other PPV cards to go for as much as $50. It’s a rare thing for a fight that takes place in Germany to be shown in the U.S.

Haye, one of the hardest punchers in the heavyweight division, will be trying to take the 36-year-old Valuev’s title. Haye moved up from the cruiserweight division late last year in hopes of winning a heavyweight title. While campaigning as a cruiserweight, Haye won the following titles WBA/WBC/WBO and showed for a brief time that he was the best fighter in the division.

Haye, however, wasn’t satisfied and decided to move up in weight in search of bigger accomplishments and bigger paydays. The Valuev bout, Haye hopes, will only be the start of his bigger paydays. If he can get by the 7-foot Valuev, there will likely be big money fights against the Klitschko brothers in the future.

Haye is the new kid on the block in the heavyweight division and the one that everyone is talking about. Despite having fought only Monte Barrett and Tomasz Bonin in the heavyweight division. Haye was stopped in the 5th round by 40-year-old Carl Thompson in 2004 while fighting as a cruiserweight.

Beyond that fight, Haye has breezed through his competition in both the cruiserweight and heavyweight division. The knock on Haye is that he has a weak chin, mediocre boxing skills and poor stamina. The problem is that most of his competition are rarely able to make it past the sixth round against him and thus aren’t in the position to take advantage of his flaws.

Valuev, 36, a two time WBA heavyweight champion, recaptured the WBA title last year with a 12 round split decision victory over John Ruiz in August 2008. Since then, Valuev has defended the title once, beating 46-year-old Evander Holyfield by a controversial 12 round majority decision in December 2008, a fight in which many boxing fans felt that Holyfield should have won.

Valuev will have to fight much better than that against Haye if he wants to hold onto his title, because Haye will be throwing combinations and will likely be much busier than Holyfield was in his bout against Valuev. The big seven foot Russian Valuev will be trying to use his height, reach and weight against the shorter 6’3” 215 pound Haye.

It will be up to Haye to try and use his speed to avoid being mauled by the big Valuev. If the bout takes place in a small box, Valuev will likely win because of his huge size. This is why Haye will need to use in and out attacks which will enable him to take advantage of his fast hands and big power. Valuev, never fast to begin with, has slowed down in the past couple of years through aging.
