Froch Wins But Ends Up Looking Like a Loser

froch4234153By Scott Gilfoid: I think it’s safe to say that WBC super middleweight champion Carl Froch proved exactly nothing in beating Jermain Taylor in 12th round TKO with 14 seconds left in the fight. It’s funny how many of Froch’s fans were all over him after the fight, making it out as if Froch had accomplished something. Now that there’s been a little bit of time for them to think about the fight, many of Froch’s same boxing fans have quickly started to distance themselves from him.

It’s simply hilarious and yet so sad. If they couldn’t see Froch’s glaring defensive liabilities, lack of hand speed and a his robotic way of fighting going into last Saturday’s fight with Taylor, then they much be blind. I knew was going to have major problems against Taylor. Not because Taylor is a good fighter, but because I could see that Froch had a ton of problems with his offense and defense.

I missed getting the prediction right, since Froch won, but you could see how right I was while Taylor was beating the stuffing out of Froch for the first six rounds. It didn’t matter that Froch ended up winning, he looked absolutely horrible the whole time, and even his fans could see that.

After the fight, Froch could have had a lot of people eating out of the palms of his hands and kissing his backside, but then he had to go and screw it up by calling out Joe Calzaghe. That was priceless, and seemed like a classic Froch moment. Instead of basking in the glory, a slightly testy Froch, who looked like he had a major chip on his shoulder, had to blow it by mentioning Calzaghe’s name.

All this did was alienate many of the same fans that were happy for him. Anyway, there’s no point in mentioning how badly Froch messed things up by droning on about Calzaghe. Hopefully, Froch learned from this and will keep his trap shut from now on about Calzaghe. I don’t blame Froch for wanting to fight Calzaghe, but that wasn’t the place for Froch to air out his wishes.

Who knows what Froch will do next. The fight showed all the worst of Froch’s skills, with him getting blasted to the canvas in the 3rd round when he tried to trade shots with Taylor. Froch has big ambitions and wants to accomplish a lot, but he should shoot low if he wants to hold onto his WBC title. I don’t see him beating his number #2 or #3 ranked opponents, and it would probably be suicidal for him to fight them.

If Froch wants to be a good guy, he might try and lure Taylor into a rematch. Taylor said after the fight he’d a like a rematch. I don’t know that Taylor could beat Froch next time around, but at least it would give Froch a good chance to keep his title a little while longer. If he faces Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell, Froch will surely lose and likely get knocked out for his efforts.
