miranda64633By Chris Williams: If I were Jermain Taylor or Carl Froch right now, I’d be plenty worried about what lies ahead of me, because Colombian knockout artist Edison Miranda (32-3, 28 KOs) has made it known that he wants to fight the winner of those two fighters. Miranda looked outstanding last night in stopping Ugandan Joey Vegas (11-5-1, 4 KOs) in the 5th round at the in Bethnal Green, London, England.

Showing power that both Froch and Taylor could only dream about having, Miranda dropped Vegas twice in the third round and then buried him with an avalanche of punches in the 5th to cause the stoppage of the fight. Miranda, 28, prefers that he fight Taylor, whom he has been eager for a fight with for the past two years. However, he’s willing to fight Froch as well. The big money, through, is with Taylor, and that’s who Miranda really wants to get in the ring.

Taylor (28-2-1, 17 KOs) will be making his 2nd fight as a super middleweight when he challenges Froch for his WBC title on April 15th at the Foxwoods Resort Casino, in Mashantucket, Connecticut. At one time not too long ago, Taylor was considered to be the best fighter in the middleweight division. However, two losses to Kelly Pavlik changed all that, sending Taylor fleeing from the middleweight division to the super middleweights, where he could make the weight class much easier without having to starve himself down.

Froch (24-0, 19 KOs) has faced mostly limited competition in England. However, he fought quite well in his last fight, beating Canadian Jean Pascal by a 12-round decision in December. Froch showed that he could take a lot of punishment and keep coming forward. Eventually, he wore Pascal out and was able to win many of the later rounds of the fight to get the decision victory. Froch has only rarely fought out of the safe confines of England, and it’s a mystery how he’ll perform when he’s not in front of his loud home audience to give him support.

Miranda looked very dangerous last night, beating Vegas with ease and showing the British public what a world class power puncher can do. The audience seemed to adopt Miranda immediately, cheering him loudly for every huge shot he landed and turning their back on Vegas, who has fought his entire five year career in the UK.
