It was unclear as to whether Barrera would actually be able to fight after taking a fight on in his home country a mere six weeks before he was scheduled to fight Britain’s Amir Khan.

However, in that fight, his unknown, unproven opponent, Freudis Rojas deliberately headbutted Barrera earning himself a instant disqualification and Barrera a nasty deep gash above his left eye.

However, Frank Warren was delighted to confirm he had received assurances from Don King that the fight will go ahead as planned on March 14th with around 15,000 tickets already sold for the fight at Manchester’s MEN Arena.

“It’s a great relief to finally get confirmation that Barrera will be ready for March 14,” said Warren. “Sometimes these problems happen in boxing and you have to get through them, but I’m delighted that the fight is on and now we can get back to business and sell the remaining tickets for what will be a great fight.”
Amir Khan is currently in preparation in Los Angeles with his trainer Freddie Roach also commented on his delight that the fight will go ahead as planned.

Khan said “It was a worrying few days but it’s great news to hear that it’s still on the original date. I was never worried that the fight wouldn’t happen, at the worst it would have been delayed by a couple of weeks, but now my team are all geared up and ready for March 14. My training camp is going absolutely fantastic and I will be in the best shape of my life come fight night.”

How or whether this affects Barrera’s training camp for the fight remains to be seen. However, should Amir Khan win this fight, there will be those critics who will say the fight should have been pushed back for Barrera to recover. However, the fact remains that Barrera is happy with this fight to remain on the same date despite the incident and credit should be given to Barrera for sticking with it, but whether this is his downfall remains to be seen.
