Green Decisions Williams

Super middleweight contender Allan Green (26-1, 18 KOs) continued with his successful comeback with an impressive 10-round lpsided unanimous decision over Ruben Williams (29-3, 16 KOs) on Friday night at the Million Dollar Elm Casino, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It was the third consecutive win for Green, 28, since losing a disappointing unanimous decision loss to Edison Miranda in March 2007. Green had little problems with Williams, using mainly his jab and right hand to pound out the 10 round decision.

Green swept every round of the fight, and knocked Williams down in the 9th round to put an exclamation point on his one-sided victory. In the fourth round, Green staggered Williams with two powerful right hands, but was unable to finish the job after missing with a flurry of shots.

For his part, Williams didn’t show any sense of urgency in the bout, seeming content to stay back and throw an occasional jab. As the rounds progressed, Williams fell deeper and deeper behind in the fight, but he did little to step up the pace with his mostly nonexistent offense.

A lot of credit has to go to Green, for his powerful jab was nothing short of extraordinary, and his right hand was equally impressive on the rare occasions that he would let it go. Green was rarely pressured by Williams, and it seemed without that pressure, Green was satisfied with winning by fighting a mostly conservative fight. The final judges’ scores were 98-91, 99-89 and 99-90, all for Green.

Unlike his recent bouts, Green decided not to go all out at the start of his fight, perhaps wanting to get in more rounds for a change. He certainly looked as if he could end the fight at any time if he had decided on pressing Williams with an all out surge like Green had done against Sherwin Davis and Darrell Woods, both of whom Green had knocked out within the first two rounds of the fight.
