By Chris Williams: A short while ago, TMZ Sports said that Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao had agreed in their negotiations and that the fight will be announced in the coming days. However, Chris Mannix from Sports Illustrated is saying that isn’t yet done yet, although the negotiations are making progress.

It looks like TMZ is jumping the gun by saying the fight is a done deal when it’s not. When the fight is announced, you can bet that Mayweather will be the one that reveals it first on his twitter.

”Sources tell SI that a Mayweather-Pacquiao deal is not done yet, as TMZ reported. Inching closer and both sides optimistic. But not done,” Mannix Said on his twitter.

The Mayweather vs. Pacquiao fight will likely be revealed by Top Rank’s people before the ink is even dry on the contract. They’re going to want to announce this fight as quickly as possible in order to start marketing it fast, especially if Pacquiao’s business adviser Michael Koncz is correct about them not wanting to have worldwide tour or a big tour of the United States in order to market the fight.

Koncz is saying that they won’t even have HBO 24/7 or Showtime ALL Access episodes because they’re not needed. It’s pretty crazy stuff. If you’re not going to market the fight, then, yeah, it’s definitely important for Top Rank to get the news out there as quickly as possible to the boxing media so that they start drumming up interest in the fight.

TMZ is really putting it’s “credibility on the line,” Steve Kim said on his twitter about this. He’s right. But TMZ isn’t taking any real risks though in looking bad, because Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum already said earlier today that the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight will hopefully be a done deal in the next two days, which is basically what TMZ is saying. Some scoop that is.

“Hold your horses everyone, as of now, it’s not a done deal (Pac-May, yet. This is still being worked on I’m told,” Kim said on his twitter.

It’s unclear what’s left that needs to be worked out by Pacquiao and Mayweather in terms of the contract. Arum isn’t saying what issues they have left and neither is Koncz. It’s likely nothing big, because they’ve already agreed on the purse split with Mayweather reportedly getting the lion’s share of the money with a 60-40 split. That’s more than a fair deal for Pacquiao, who has lost 2 out of his last 5 fights, and who’s pay-per-view numbers have been less than spectacular in his three recent fights.
