golovkin0013By Allan Fox: Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions is working on putting together WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s next fight, which could take place in Los Angeles, California in October, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Golovkin is coming off of a 3rd round TKO victory over Daniel Geale last July at Madison Square Garden in New York.

With Golovkin having fought a lot recently in the East Coach and Monte Carlo, Loeffler wants to get him some West Coast exposure so that he can pick up fans in this part of the United States.

Golovkin prides himself on what he calls his “Mexican style” of fighting that he learned from his trainer Abel Sanchez, and this will give him a chance to fight in front of new fans in California that can appreciate his way of fighting.

“We are just working on which opponents are available and willing to get in the ring with GGG,” Loeffler said to Dan Rafael of ESPN. “We are exploring options in L.A.”

Getting someone good to say yes to a fight against Golovkin could prove to be next to impossible. Miguel Cotto and Saul “Canelo” Alvarez have both shown no interest in fighting him. WBO champ Peter Quillin fights on Showtime, so that’s not happening. IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch’s promoter Eddie Hearn said recently that a fight against Golovkin isn’t a pay-per-view worthy fight, according to HBO.

More than likely, Golovkin is going to need to be satisfied with defending his title against the most recognizable top contender that’s willing to fight him in the 160 pound division. It could be someone like Willie Monroe Jr, Arif Magomedov or Patrick Nielsen.

WBO 154 pound champion Demetrius Andrade would be a perfect opponent for Golovkin to fight, because he seems willing to face anyone in the sport just so that he can get a big fight. If Andrade could move up in weight to 160 to face Golovkin, it would be a huge fight that many boxing fans would want to see. Andrade has good power and excellent size at 6’1”. Golovkin would be giving away three inches in height to Andrade.
