roach67By Allen Hmiel: Today any young talented fighter with aspirations and dreams of becoming a boxing champion needs an astute Boxing trainer with the understanding of what it takes to get to the top and win a championship. There are many trainers in boxing and most know the sport well and can teach the basic fundamentals of boxing. But who would you choose to train-teach and develop your young eager talented prospect?

Probably the top 4 Trainers today are Nacho Beristain, Freddie Roach, Robert Garcia and Virgil Hunter. There are other big names out there but these top 4 trainers seem to be in the limelight the most. Who would be the trainer you would pick to lead your fighter to the mountain top and get that championship belt around his waist? Trainers today are stars themselves with all the TV exposure and interviews. Freddie Roach is almost a rock star in boxing whose fame has grown considerably with Pacquiao’s rise to fame and fortune.

Roach seems to develop champions and has the pedigree and fame that is deserved. Beristain has done a great job in developing the Mexican fighters he has had and guided. Robert Garcia’s current stable of Champions speaks volumes of his success and Virgil Hunter has developed Andre Ward into maybe the best fighter in Boxing today. All 4 trainers have had much success and we might add where does Floyd and Roger Mayweather fit into this mix? or Naazim Richardson?

Personally if I had a talented young man with great skills I would lean to Freddy Roach to teach train and develop my fighter into a champion. This opens up a great debate into how much does a trainer actually do for a fighter if the fighter has world class skills already?

Did Virgil Hunter make Andre Ward great or did Andre have the given ability already and the talent. Was Manny Pacquiao destined for boxing stardom without the tutelage of Roach? Was Donaire and Rios made champions by Garcia or was the talent already there? Beristain’s track record of champions is legendary. Is Nacho the best today? Who would you pick to develop your young fighter and make him a champion? Amir Khan thinks Virgil Hunter is the man to lead Khan back to greatness. Robert Garcia seems to have a gym full of champions and top contenders. Which trainer is the best?
