Hearn: Nothing will stop Kell Brook from becoming world champion

hearn36By Scott Gilfoid: Matchroom Sport promoter Eddie Hearn was visibly excited about his fighter Kell Brook (31-0, 21 KO’s) after his 4th round TKO victory tonight over an easy to hit, arguably over-the-hill Vyacheslav Senchenko (34-2, 23 KO’s) at the Motorpoint Arena, Sheffield, Yorkshire, United Kingdom. Brook scored to knockdowns in the fight against the 36-year-old Senchenko, and Hearn sees this as Brook’s big chance to finally get an important fight.

Hearn said “Everybody wants the fight between Kell and Amir Khan, and Adrien Broner is a fight we’d love to get over here as well. One thing I know for sure: Nothing is going to stop Kell Brook from becoming a world champion. He’s had a rough, rough ride and people give him stick, but nothing will stop him.”

Hearn perhaps needs to be a little more realistic about what the future has in store for Brook so that he doesn’t get all hopeful for nothing.

First off, there likely won’t be any Khan or Broner facing Brook in the UK or anywhere else for that matter. That’s not happening, and I wouldn’t have wasted the precious television time that Hearn had on Sky by flapping my gums about that. Hearn needed to talk about Brook facing the winner of the Devon Alexander vs. Shawn Porter fight and nothing else.

As much as Hearn would like Brook to face some of the bigger names, he’s going to have to be satisfied with the winner of the Alexander-Porter fight. Brook had the chance of fighting Alexander earlier this year, but his body failed him twice with him suffering leg injuries. Brook had waited all those years for a title shot and when it finally came, his body fell apart on him.

There doesn’t seem to be a huge demand for the Brook vs. Khan fight right now. I think that’s a wasted fight for Khan right now. He’s got bigger fish to fry in a big money bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May. We would Khan want to face Brook for smaller money when he can make all that good clean cash fighting Mayweather?
