Andre Ward: I’m not going to play games with Froch

By Scott Gilfoid: WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward wasn’t in the mood to play around in getting interviewed by Sky Sports after tonight’s impressive 3rd round knockout win by Gennady Golovkin over Matthew Macklin. Ward was asked his thoughts about facing IBF/WBA super middleweight champion Carl Froch, and Ward said he wasn’t going to play games in going back and forth with Froch and his promoter.

Ward said he thinks Froch is making all kinds of excuses for why he doesn’t want to fight him.

Ward said “I’m not gonna play games with Froch. As I’ve said, I’m open to discussion to fight Carl Froch anywhere…he’s trying to make his next move and not make any mistakes. Against me, it wouldn’t be a good move. I wish he would stop mentioning my name all the time.”

Well of course Froch is going to mention Ward’s name all the time. It’s called name-dropping and it’s what fighters do to get attention by mentioning better fighters then themselves. By mentioning them, some boxing fans then see them in the same class as the better fighters, even though there really not.

We see Tyson Fury name dropping the Klitschko’s names all the time, and we see Froch name dropping Ward’s name. You know and I know, Froch isn’t going to be fighting Ward anytime soon, if ever.

Froch is trying to get a third fight with Mikkel Kessler, a guy he just beat. I mean, there’s no point in Froch fighting Kessler again because he just proved that he’s better than what the 34-year-old Kessler has left, yet Froch is still looking to fight him again.

I guess if the British boxing public is willing to pay to see that fight again, then why not. I can see why Froch would rather fight Kessler than Ward. He can make all that money fighting Kessler over and over again on pay per view. For me, if Froch and Kessler never fight again it’ll be too soon.

I have no interest in seeing Froch fight Kessler over and over again for no real reason. Kessler looks like a played out fighter to me, and a third fight would give up the same results with Froch jabbing Kessler from afar and winning.
