Image: Haye: I'm punching way too hard; Chisora won't make it past sixBy Sean McDaniel: Former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye (25-2, 23 KO’s) says he’s in top shape for his fight against Dereck Chisora (15-3, 9 KO’s) next month on July 14th, and he doesn’t see the fight going past the 6th round due to his big power. Haye’s not the only one that sees this fight ending early. A lot of people don’t see Chisora winning this fight and feel he’s going to get knocked out early.

Haye said on his twitter “This fight will not go past 6 rounds. I’m punching way too hard!”

Chisora has good power too, but he’s missing the needed hand speed for him to be able to land his shots with the same kind of authority. At the same time if Chisora and Haye get in a slugging match where they’re both flurrying, Haye will have a big advantage in this kind of fight as well. He’s capable of throwing with maximum power even in close, and that makes him really dangerous. Chisora isn’t able to summon the same kind of power that Haye does when he gets on the inside. Chisora needs space in order for him to land his shots with the most amount of power.

Chisora likes to bring up Haye’s loss to Carl Thompson from 2004, and feels he’ll be able to do the same thing to Haye that Thompson did. However, Thompson had better hand speed than Chisora, and he also was a better puncher as well. Chisora can’t match the same kind of power that Thompson had going for him, even in the last stages of his career. Thompson was simply the bigger puncher despite not being nearly as big as Chisora.
