Image: Haye-Chisora, Povetkin-Rahman, Burns-Mitchell possible for July 14thBy William Mackay: According to news from Dan Rafael, a possible card could take place on July 14th in London featuring former WBA heavyweight champion David Haye taking on Dereck Chisora, with WBA World heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin defending his title against Hasim Rahman, and WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns facing Kevin Mitchell.

If this fight card can be put together, it would be a sensational card. You don’t even need the undercard for a fight like Chisora vs. Haye. That’s a grudge match because the two fighters were involved in a brawl after Chisora’s loss to WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitshko last February in Munich, Germany.

The Chisora-Haye will likely require for the fight to be held outside of London, however, due to Chisora having lost his boxing license after having it stripped from him by the British Boxing Board of Control for Chisora’s actions related to the brawl with Haye, including Chisora’s spitting on Wladimir Klitschko and slapping of Vitali during the pre-fight weigh-in.

Chisora will be appealing his ban to the BBBofC on May 14th. Depending on how things go with that hearing, we could see the July 14th fight in the UK or outside of the country if Chisora can’t get his boxing license back. Haye might also have problems getting his boxing license back when he attempts to renew it, because of his part in the brawl with Chisora.

A fight between Povetkin and Rahman is not all that interesting of a fight. Povetkin has no choice but to take on Rahman, though, because he’s his World Boxing Association mandatory challenger and there’s no way around taking that fight.

Burns vs. Mitchell could be an interesting match-up if Mitchell can handle the 5’10” Burns’ huge size. That’s a big if because Burns looks huge after he rehydrates and Mitchell just doesn’t have the ability to balloon up to the 140s to make this fight a little more even in weights.
