Floyd Mayweather has been proven right in the drug testing standards that are needed

By David Ishola: For a few years now Floyd Mayweather has spoken about better drug testing being needed in boxing and whilst some people may see it as a shot at Manny Pacquiao and simply a way of avoiding doing Mayweather/Pacquiao it now seems to be very right on the back of Lamont Peterson being caught out taking what his own team have called “Pellets” of a form of testosterone.

The probability now is that the Khan/Peterson fight doesn’t happen. But the bigger picture is that the changes Floyd Mayweather wanted in his own fights with drug testing carried out Olympics style may be asked for by many other fighters involved in World title matches at the very least.

I don’t know a great deal about USDA drug testing or how they differ from normal testing but the fact that arguably the biggest name in the sport is asking for them for his own fights will carry some weight in regards to other people asking for the most stringent of drug testing. Whether Amir Khan gets his loss overturned or not remains to be seen but seeing as Oscar De La Hoya never had his losses to Shane Mosley overturned i believe that Lamont Peterson’s win over Amir Khan should stand and a fight between Amir Khan and A.N Other for the World title should be set rather than just giving Amir Khan the title back.

Maybe the time has now come to have boxers drug tested all year round in the same way as Tennis has done which is random testing taking place at short notice which would hopefully catch anyone using out and then punishment should already be in place for the people caught such as two year bans or even four year bans depending on how much is found in their systems. Either way Floyd Mayweather asking for USDA style testing back in 2009 was a great idea back then even if it was because of Manny Pacquiao or nor and the idea that he had should now be in full force to avoid any more people like Lamont Peterson being caught so close to a World title fight.
